Hydrogeological Studies
Hydrogeological characterization consists of the following tasks:
- Consult available cartographic data on the site being studied, that is, geological and piezometric maps, depth of overburden, refill and DRASTIC, as well as other relevant MELCC directories;
- Consult HIS (hydrogeological information system) data to extract data on the flow, depth and stratigraphy of wells in a radius of 1.5 km around the zone being studied;
- Identify preferential zones for a water supply well based on an analysis of the foregoing data. This analysis does not in any way guarantee the presence of enough water during the planned drilling;
- Produce a hydrogeological characterization report, including the description of the geology, pedology, piezometry, hydraulic properties and physical and chemical parameters of the underground water.
Characterization of Natural Environments
Before executing a project, especially along a watercourse or on a lot that includes wetlands, or during construction of water supply lines or sewers, an ecological characterization is important to describe the natural environment and identify possible ecological constraints on the property. The goal is to follow the Environment Quality Act and the Wetlands and Water Conservation Act.
Ecological characterization may include the following: the high water line, banks and floodplains of lakes and watercourses, threatened or vulnerable species of flora and fauna, such as wild leek and western striped chorus frog, wildlife habitats and protected areas, rare forest stands and sensitive zones.
